  • Name SOULE, Joseph  [1
    • As per Mayflower Society George Soule of the Mayflower and his first four generations. Sixth Edition.

Joseph Soule born Dartmouth 8 Nov. 1701; died almost certainly NC before 18 Dec 1739, when his brother Benjamin Soule sold [Joseph's] assets to William Small.

William Small received a land patent for 300 acres on 20 Feb. 1735 in Bladen Precinct on south side of White Marsh, joining John Dodfrye and Hugh Blanning. When William Small died before 1 Aug. 1743 without paying his debt to Benjamin Soule, it would appear there was no inheritance of Joseph's orphans.

Joseph apparently married ca. 1727 (after 23 Dec. 1725) perhaps....Howland or Page, poss. daughter of a Benjamin. This wife was probably born ca. 1707; died ca 1730 (before 21 May 1731 deed).

On 23 Dec. 1725 Joseph Soule, of Dartmouth, mariner, deeded his 1/9 share in the homestead of his deceased father William Soule of Dartmouth to Benjamin Soule.

One Capt. Joseph Soule was listed to sail out of Perth-Amboy NJ for Barbados 17 Dec. 1729, 20 Apr. 1730, and again 2 June 1730.

On 21 May 1731 Joseph Soule of Dartmouth, mariner, sells 411/2 acres in Dartmouth originally bought 16 Jan 1724/25. On 7 July 1731 Joseph Soule of Dartmouth, mariner, sell 2/9 of part of land and cedar swamp laid out for his father William Soule, deceased. No wife signs or acknowledges any of these deeds.

Joseph 'Soul' was named as an abutter in the patent to Samuel Carver of lands in Bladen Co., NC on 11 Oct. 1731.

On 7 Aug 1733 George Soule deposed that his brother Joseph went to "Carolina" "about two years last past."

On 10 Sept. 1735 Joseph Soule petitioned for 640 acres in Bladen Co. [NC]. In the grant of the same date he is called Joseph Sowell Sr. This land was near the 'Waggamaw' or White Marsh. On 9 Feb. 1737/1738 he is called Capt. Joseph 'Soul' as an abytter un a warrant to Elizabeth Thornton.
